This book provides information on the interaction of topically applied lipids with skin barrier lipids, focusing on new biophysical and analytical methods that can assess lipid status. Coverage encompasses the chemistry, structure, and biological functions of skin lipids and their interaction with the lipids formulated into skin and hair care preparations. Early chapters introduce the fundamentals of lipid chemistry, review recent concepts about the structural arrangement of lipids in the skin barrier, and deal with the biological function and activity of skin lipids.
